'I started having guitar lessons with Matt some 15 years ago - my guitar playing was going nowhere. I needed guidance to get out of a rut & develop my playing and a confidence boost to get out and do things, to play in public.
I didn't really want to go down the music theory route - so we didn't except when I asked.
I learnt a bit about acoustic finger picking, some interesting jazz chords; I learnt about classic rock stuff and a bit of blues; I learnt about punk;
I learnt about amps and effects, even a little about mixing. I learned about setting up and looking after guitars. And we did this at my pace.
Now I play in three bands and I've played all over Kent. I have got 2 EP's out - some of which I wrote - and we've had plenty of radio play, even a live session on BBC Radio Kent.
I'm now in my sixties and I'm still learning! I am not the most talented musician - far from it - but I've wildly exceeded what I ever thought I could do and had a huge amount of fun along the way and that all stems from getting a tutor who could take me forward on my terms and at my speed. Elsie had been learning guitar for several years, but struggled to find direction. There was an immediate change once she started online lessons with Matt. She realised her true passion was playing the bass and she made quick progress. Matt is both patient and encouraging, which helped to build her confidence and identity as a musician. His online setup means he can easily give feedback on different aspects of performance, which enabled Elsie to improve technically. She always looked forward to lessons and came out of them energised to keep playing. She passed her Trinity Bass Grade 5 and 6 under Matt's direction, and played in front of large crowds at venues such as the Forum in Tunbridge Wells. She is now studying bass at university level in Canada, having successfully auditioned for Music Performance at Dalhousie University's prestigious Fountain School of Performing Arts.

You have been an inspiring source of help and encouragement for Finlay and have made such a difference to his success in Music and his enjoyment of the subject, especially when this support has been lacking at school.
I'm sure Finlay has already mentioned it, but he is hoping to go to either York or UWE to study Music Technology. In future, would it be ok if Fin could potentially get in touch as and when he may perhaps need a few more sessions with you?

Matt is an absolutely incredible guitar teacher, and we feel so lucky to have found him. Reuben has been learning with Matt for five years now, and his patience, enthusiasm and genuine passion for music are second to none. The online setup works brilliantly, even better than being in person. Matt can zoom in on the fretboard, bring music up on screen and make everything really easy to follow.
Over the years, Reuben has progressed from acoustic to electric guitar, which is where his real passion lies. Matt is fantastic at finding songs that inspire him while continuing to develop and challenge his skills. He’s also helped with everything from understanding amp settings and tuning so Reuben can set himself up independently, to using drum and backing tracks to develop his timing and musicality.

Matt has taught my son Harris for nearly 5 years. He started on acoustic guitar and then has progressed to electric guitar. Harris has enjoyed his online lessons with Matt immensely over the years. Harris has always felt relaxed in his lessons with Matt, even though they have never met - we live in Scotland. When I asked Harris what he liked about Matt he said that not only is he a great teacher, but he always takes an interest in Harris’s other hobbies. Matt is always very patient and takes his time to explain things and demonstrates extremely well. He is also very positive and encourages to push to the next level. The online resources available including sheet music cover many genres. There are so many songs that are firm favourites! The demonstration videos have been so invaluable for practice at home. They also show how highly skilled Matt is in performing and teaching. We couldn’t recommend Matt enough!

Matt has given lessons to Louie for the last 9 years. Matt is an excellent teacher who obviously loves what he does. His approach is friendly and enthusiastic. He has been able to help Louie with every aspect of music, from playing and setting up his guitar and amps, to configuration of his Production software. The online teaching environment that Matt has invested in is excellent. In many respects it gives a better experience than a face-to-face lesson. I started to learn the acoustic guitar in January 2026. It’s something I’d been thinking about doing for years, but when my son discovered Matt and bought me two lessons as a Christmas gift, it kicked me over the line and I’m so pleased that I’ve embarked on this journey. He will happily teach you any preferred songs you like listening to and will help you perfect them.
